Hi, I'm Philipp

I do SAP data migration

SAP data migration and application management in manufacturing, ready for S/4HANA. I connect ERP, shop floor and data, and use AI to turn it into knowledge people can actually use.

About

I connect two sides that rarely meet: communicating with business units and vendors, and the detailed work in data models and interfaces. What drives me most is curiosity: I learn because I want to understand how things work.

My path wasn't a straight one: secondary modern school, then my Abitur as an IT assistant, a dual degree in business informatics, and now a part-time Master's in Applied AI. I've been at Walterscheid since 2018. Before the acquisition by Comer Industries, almost every site ran its own ERP. In four migrations across Germany and the US we brought them onto one shared SAP system, the foundation for the next step towards S/4HANA. In a team of two, I run the application landscape at our Lohmar site, from goods receipt to shipping.

My goal: bring together ERP depth, shop-floor know-how and AI. My AI-assisted knowledge base shows what that looks like day to day: with it, a machine integration took two days instead of four weeks.

IT Project Manager & IT Application Manager

Before the acquisition by Comer Industries, the sites ran on different ERP systems. In four migration projects (Sohland, Lohmar, Woodridge/US and a finance rollout across Germany and the US) I helped bring them onto one shared SAP system, laying the groundwork for the group-wide S/4HANA transition. For me, “projects” means mid-size delivery projects for manufacturing that I build myself, not classic project management. Alongside that, application management in a team of two for the Lohmar site (approx. 700 employees): 36 interfaces along the manufacturing chain, from SAP R/3 to high-bay and small-parts warehouses, laser cutters, shop-floor data collection, quality management, time tracking and access control. Built an AI-assisted knowledge base for the application landscape on my own initiative.

IT Application Administrator

Moved straight from the dual degree into operational responsibility: running production and logistics applications, user support and training. From 04/2022, took the first SAP migration (Sohland site) in-house after it had been planned for an external partner.

Practical phases in IT application support: requirements analysis, user support and documentation across production, logistics and administration.

ERP Harmonization: Four Projects, One SAP

Before the acquisition by Comer Industries, almost every site ran its own ERP. Four migration projects from the legacy ERP FourthShift (Infor) to SAP R/3: the Sohland, Lohmar and Woodridge (US) sites plus a finance rollout across Germany and the US. Together around 14M master and transactional records across 25 objects in MM, PP, SD and WM/LE. The shared SAP system is now the foundation for moving to S/4HANA along the SAP roadmap. Along the way, an in-house framework emerged with object, field and knowledge mappings, governance, risk tracking and management-ready reporting.

AI-Assisted Knowledge Base for the Application Landscape

Moving from hand-maintained documentation to a system that keeps itself up to date: a daily mirror copies every database definition (DDL) into a versioned knowledge base, structured per application and readable by LLMs. On top of it, I build things like new interfaces together with Claude. Result: a machine integration was done in 2 days instead of about 4 weeks.

S/4HANA Conversion: Custom T-Code Analysis

Ahead of the move from R/3 to S/4HANA, I analyze which custom transaction codes (e.g. in customizing) have barely been used in recent months. The resulting delta table tells us what really needs an S/4-compatible rebuild, because every external conversion costs money.

SAP ↔ Shop Floor Interfaces

36 inbound and outbound interfaces between SAP and the high-bay warehouse, small-parts warehouse, saw shop, laser cutters and shop-floor data collection, with machine integrations built in T-SQL. During the migrations, bidirectional in-house interfaces kept both ERP systems postable while they ran in parallel.

How I work

What defines me at work

1

I translate between manufacturing and SAP

I enjoy reaching out to people and know the ERP landscape in detail. In the SAP projects, I could align manufacturing's requirements directly with the SAP consultants. That made the migration into the Comer template much easier.

2

Curiosity beats routine

I learn because I want to understand things, not for a certificate. That's how an idea turned into the AI-assisted knowledge base that now turns weeks into days.

3

Structure, so ideas can hold

I have plenty of ideas, so I rely on clear rules: mappings, status, risks. Over four migrations, that turned into a framework that made every following project faster.

4

Sort things out calmly, bring people along

Cutover weekend, patchy legacy docs, time pressure: first I calmly sort out what really matters, then I bring the team along. No blame game, just getting things done. What matters is that production keeps running.

Beyond work

How I recharge

Running and the gym keep my head clear. Wachswandel and Treffix are my playground for my own ideas.
